What lies beneath is yet unknown. Kept secrets and stories told are yet to be composed. Waves crash – rolling over a new paragraph in our novel nature.

With open arms
we walk side by side.
A clear path, rippling landscapes.
We walk
alongside youthful beds of potential.
We glow.
But walk for no reason,
I might just be a bud in bloom.
As my petals absorb the sunlight’s encouragement,
and droplets of rainfall nourish my growth,
I stand tall.
I stand brave amongst a landscape in contrast
gently swaying in a subtle breeze –
What is plain you might ask?
Plain is wondering if you’re overdressed for a casual occasion. Plain is deciding that matching socks look better than an odd pair. Plain is saying no to extra sprinkles on your vanilla ice cream. Plain is stepping onto a set of scales and believing that the number shown is somehow a reflection of who you truly are. Plain is the feeling of relying on someone else so much you’ve forgotten how to stand on your own two feet. Plain is asking for permission to be unconditionally and completely yourself.
Just as I was beginning to feel like I had moulded into a graceful young woman and was finally rid of my 4th form rebellious behaviours when an overwhelming urge to shave my head, acquire a skateboard and buy a new pair of DC street shoes was upon me.
Another day
Another cliché.
Silence –
for the words spoken too often.
I couldn’t possibly think of a better time to write – to reflect; when the sun begins to fade and the day draws to an end. When you take the time to stand – even sit still for a brief second and absorb the chaos that surrounds you, you realise how significant pauses like these can be when reflecting on moments past gone.

There comes a time where friends become family, negatives become positives and hope becomes reality. You’ll find a way to overcome any obstacle – even the ones that seem simply impossible. You’ll face challenges which will test your strength, your capabilities and your worth but will provide you with the ability to turn disappointment into potential opportunities.

This isn’t going to be one of those stories where I write about the time I watched a troubling documentary and deciding I wanted to become an animal rights activist nor is it a story about bearing witness to harrowing images and being convinced that “vegan is caring” by a very persuasive Facebook video. This is a REAL story about a REAL experience I once had in the fall of June last year which changed my life in many ways. This is my vegetarian story.
