Waikato Home & Garden Show
I was privileged enough to have the opportunity to enter the Waikato Home & Garden Show 2016 with a team of talented student designers. With ‘My Dream Space” being the competition brief, we decided to create a contemporary indoor/outdoor bathroom retreat nestled in amongst a beautiful New Zealand backyard. The inspiration for this project stemmed from our combined love of organic textures and materials and the passion we share for upcycling. The overall space felt calm and relaxing – creating a surreal dream space for many to enjoy.
Our exhibition won the overall People’s Choice Award and was also awarded Third Place by a panel of industry judges. Not a bad result for a team of graduates if you ask me.

Restoration Project
With the idea of conceptual projects in mind, restoring the old Hamilton Water Tower was first on the agenda. Taking in account the structures landscape and history, I decided to transform the dilapidated shell into a library and research facility which takes full advantage of the surrounding views. Large floor to ceiling windows allow an abundance of natural light to filter through. The open plan layout provides ample circulation and movement space whilst partition walls create subtle division. The exisiting central structure of the tower has been preserved, becoming a sculptural feature surrounded by a spiral staircase.

Commercial
A simple retail fitout developed in the heart of the city. Using the exisiting concrete rendered walls as inspiration, the space began to take on an industrial personality. Large copper pendants and timber shelving units highlight the functionality of bare minimal design and create an urban environment.

Tattoo Studio
A conceptually designed tattoo studio has taken over Wintec’s original C Block on Alexandra St. Exposed brick features, concrete flooring, raw timber and shrubbery add life and colour to the urbanized space. The rusty tones of brown and burnt reds create a traditional tattoo studio aesthetic.

Xen Lifestyle Club
Xen was a conceptual project for a client who aimed to develop a set of spaces into a lifestyle club in the centre of Hamilton City. The clubs facilities include a tea lounge, health and yoga studio and a beauty centre for clients who desire a wholesome, mind and body experience. Xen takes inspiration from multiple areas of relaxation from around the globe. Featured are Mediterranean glass tiles, natural timber and bamboo panels, clay rendered surfaces and tropical flora which incapsulates the feeling of pure serenity. Xen Lifestyle Club feels fresh, modern and earthy – an ideal space to unwind in the centre of the city.
